The Lakers were the biggest winners of this offseason, acquiring LeBron James and signing Rajon Rondo. The Celtics lost Isaiah Thomas and Kyrie Irving to free agency.
The nba players trade rumors is a blog post that discusses the biggest offseason acquisition and loss for each NBA team. The Lakers are the big winners, as they acquired LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
The NBA offseason has come to a close, with a few free players still on the market and the possibility of a Ben Simmons or CJ McCollum deal in the future. NBA teams should, for the most part, provide depth charts on major media outlets. The free-agent frenzy is usually a circus of movement, and this year was no exception, as Russell Westbrook, Kyle Lowry, and DeMar DeRozan all found new homes.
It’s time to examine the movement now that the dust has cleared. There may still be some trades to be done, but each club tried to make a splash at the expense of losing a key component from last year’s lineup. Let’s take a look at each team’s major offseason additions and subtractions.
Hawks of Atlanta
Delon Wright has been added to the mix.
Wright’s overall shooting percentages improved after he was moved from the Pistons to the Kings. Wright averaged 10.0 points per game in 27 games with the Kings, shooting 46.2 percent from the field and 39.8 percent from three-point range. In addition, he had 3.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists. In general, Wright will be an excellent addition to the team’s bench.
Tony Snell’s subtraction
Despite leading the league in three-point field goal percentage, Snell is not a significant loss for the team (56.9 percent ). Snell’s attempts were among the fewest in the league, but you have 3 give him credit for making the most of his chances. Snell scored 5.3 points per game while playing 21.1 minutes each game. Another player on the roster may replace his spot.
Celtics of Boston
Al Horford has been added to the team.
When it comes to statistics, the numbers don’t tell the whole story of what Horford contributes to this team’s locker room. Since Horford’s departure, it hasn’t seemed like all of Boston’s puzzle pieces have come together. Horford will have a voice reminiscent of Kevin Garnett’s during the championship years. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, as well as first-year head coach Ime Udoka, need a veteran like Horford to bring everything together.
Kemba Walker is a subtraction.
Fans in Boston will undoubtedly believe Evan Fournier is a greater loss, but Walker’s stay might have been different if he hadn’t been injured. Walker shown that he couldn’t deal with high-pressure circumstances. He had several opportunities to put Boston ahead in the 2024 Conference Finals against Miami, but he came up short on each occasion. Walker is the Hornets’ all-time leading scorer and an All-Star. Regardless of how his Boston career ended, he is a very talented basketball player.
The Brooklyn Nets are a professional basketball team based in
Patty Mills has been added to the mix.
Patty Mills is one of the league’s most underappreciated bench players. Mills has averaged double-digit points in each of the past four years, with the exception of one season when he averaged 9.9 points. This includes shooting over 40% from the field and over 40% from three-point range. Outside of Lou Williams, this is the most experienced off-the-bench player in the league. Mills has a championship pedigree as well, having won in San Antonio. Brooklyn made a crucial choice here.
Jeff Green’s subtraction
Due to injuries to Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving, Green was often pushed into the starting lineup or the last minutes of games. Green was either starting as the team’s center or finishing the fourth quarter at the conclusion of the year. Green will be sorely missed, but with the additions of LaMarcus Aldridge and Paul Millsap, the club will be able to go on.
Hornets of Charlotte
Kelly Oubre Jr. has been added to the team.
Oubre averaged 15.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.3 assists last season. These statistics aren’t as good as they were last season in Phoenix, but they’re still good for a swingman. Unlike the Warriors, Oubre will not have to start with the Hornets. Oubre looked a lot like Lou Williams in his prime at times, so having him on the bench might assist this Charlotte squad.
Devonte’ Graham is a subtraction.
When the Hornets selected LaMalo Ball, they gave up on Graham. Ball, of course, has a greater potential, but this is the same guy who averaged 18.2 points and 7.5 assists in his second season in the league. Because he split time on the floor last year, his statistics dropped to 14.8 points and 5.4 assists. Graham’s productivity may return to sophomore levels now that he is the full-time starter.
Bulls of Chicago
DeMar DeRozan has been added to the team.
We can’t utilize Nikola Vucevic since he was acquired on the trade deadline, and Lonzo Ball was also included in the inner circle. Despite being dubbed the worst addition of the summer by experts, DeRozan is the greatest acquisition. DeRozan averaged more than six assists per game to go along with his 20.0 points. With Zach LaVine, Lonzo Ball, and DeRozan, the Bulls will have at least three players who can average over five assists per game. When you combine it with Vuceivic, you’ve got some serious ball movement.
Thaddeus Young’s subtraction
The popular point guard had a career-high 55.9% field-goal percentage and 6.2 assists. Young was the focal center of the offense at times. He was also a close friend of LaVine, whose contract is up for renewal this year. Sacrificed that DeRozan is an All-Star and Young is a backup at this stage in his career, something had to be given to bring Young to Chicago.
Cavaliers of Cleveland
Evan Mobley has been added to the mix.
Although Lauri Markkanen received the large deal, Mobley has the greater potential. Scouts compared Mobley to Anthony Davis during the draft. We’ll have to wait and see how Mobley ties it all together, but he was a top overall talent in high school. Despite Cade Cunningham and Jalen Green going before him, the Cavaliers were considered to have selected the greatest overall prospect. This All-American is believed to be the genuine article.
Larry Nance Jr. is being subtracted from the equation.
Nance was leading the NBA in steals at one point before getting injured. Regardless, he had a good year with 9.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.7 steals. The Trail Blazers added a significant bench player, but it’s debatable if Nance was worth the price of Markkanen.
Dallas Mavericks are a professional basketball team based in Dallas, Texas
Reggie Bullock has been added to the mix.
The Mavericks had a quiet offseason, adding Sterling Brown and Reggie Bullock among other selected and undrafted players. Bullock hit 41 percent from three-point range, which was his highest percentage since 2017. Bullock is expected to give the Mavericks with the outside shooting that Josh Richardson never provided.
Josh Richardson’s subtraction
The Mavericks have lost a defensive star on the wing in Richardson. The club believed they were acquiring a 3-and-D player, but he only shot 33% from beyond the arc. Bullock may have been an improvement for the squad in the end. In addition, the club didn’t lose much since Tyler Bey, another major free agency, left.
Nuggets of Denver
Jeff Green has been added to the mix.
As previously said, Green was an important part of the Nets’ rotation. Jamal Murray will be sidelined until at least the start of the 2024 season for the Nuggets. If Aaron Gordon goes down with an injury, Green might take his place. By the time the Nuggets reach the playoffs, Green should be able to play off the bench. Green will make a significant contribution throughout the regular season to assist the club reach that goal.
JaVale McGee’s subtraction
Because the Nuggets lost McGee and Paul Millsap, this was a coin flip. Millsap’s career is winding down at this time. McGee averaged 5.5 points and 5.3 rebounds in 13 games with the Nuggets. Neither is a significant loss, but McGee’s value as a rim protector is presently higher.
The Pistons are a basketball team based in Detroit, Michigan
Cade Cunningham has been added to the mix.
Cunningham was selected first overall in this year’s draft. Since Chauncey Billups’ visit, he’s been the center of attention. Cunningham averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game at Oklahoma State. Cunningham is the first significant component of Detroit’s rebuilding process, given the team’s roster. Despite the fact that his club is still a long way from contending, he will offer Detroit fans a cause to watch.
Mason Plumlee’s subtraction
Plumlee isn’t known for his flash, yet he has averaged the most points in his career since 2016. In addition, he had a career-high 9.3 rebounds. Plumlee shouldn’t have been a starter in the first place, but that’s what happens when you join a terrible team. His aggressiveness and rebounding will be missed by the Pistons.
Warriors of Golden State
Jonathan Kuminga has been added to the list.
Kuminga has the potential to be one of the greatest selections in this draft. Kuminga was a five-star prospect in high school before opting for the G-League Ignite over college. He led the club with 15.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game. It’s exciting to see what Kuminga and James Wiseman will look like in the future. The Warriors’ bench is beginning to fill up now that the mainstays of the dynasty have returned. Kuminga may play a significant role for the club off the bench.
Kelly Oubre Jr. is a subtraction.
One has to question how much Oubre enjoyed his time with the Golden State Warriors. He had to realize that after Klay Thompson returned, his role would be diminished. With Steph Curry, Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins all on the court, Oubre wasn’t going to receive as many touches. He could have accepted less money and sat on the bench, but he doesn’t seem to want to do that.
The Houston Rockets are a professional basketball team based in
Jalen Green has been added to the team.
Green may have had the greatest G-League season overall. After declining college, the former five-star recruit averaged 17.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists for the Ignite. In a defeat against the Raptors 905, Green had a season-high 30 points, seven assists, and five rebounds at one point. Green is the franchise’s first new face after James Harden’s departure. Green is the greatest player the Rockets have going ahead, despite the fact that they are in the midst of a rebuild.
Kelly Olynyk’s subtraction
Olynyk averaged 19.0 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 27 games. Those are amazing statistics, but they were achieved against a poor squad. After all, there’s a reason the Rockets were given the No. 2 overall selection. Olynyk’s statistics were exaggerated to the point that the Pistons overpaid for his services, so it wasn’t such a big deal for Houston.
The Indiana Pacers are a basketball team based in Indiana
Torrey Craig has been added to the mix.
Only Torrey Craig and Keifer Sykes, who were not draft selections, signed with the Packers as free agents. Craig was a key reserve for the Suns, who advanced to the NBA Finals last season. Craig averaged 7.2 points and 4.8 assists in 32 games after being acquired from the Bucks.
Doug McDermott’s subtraction
The only players who have left the roster are McDermott and Aaron Holiday. McDermott put up a career-high 13.6 points per game. He made 53.2 percent of his shots from the field and 38.8 percent of his three-point attempts. McDermott finally demonstrated his shooting touch after years of underperformance, earning the Spurs a lucrative deal this summer.
Los Angeles Clippers are a professional basketball team based in Los Angeles
Eric Bledsoe has been added to the team.
The Clippers were deafeningly silent when it was announced that Kawhi Leonard will be sidelined for the most of the season. The Clippers finally acted after the Pelicans traded Bledsoe to the Grizzlies. Bledsoe, who averaged 12.2 points and 3.8 assists per game, was then acquired by the club. Since 2012, these were some of his lowest numbers. It’s easy to criticize Bledsoe for not fitting into Stan Van Gundy’s system. Based on his track record, we can expect greater results this year.
Patrick Beverley’s subtraction
Are you a true Clippers fan if you’re glad to see Beverley go? Beverley, a previous All-Defensive pick who may be beyond his peak, was the Clippers’ heart and soul. He persevered through the difficult years before shining during the team’s playoff run. He was always willing to help out with the grunt labor. There aren’t many guys like that remaining in the league.
The Los Angeles Lakers are a professional basketball team based in Los
Russell Westbrook has been added to the mix.
How can you go against a player who, for the fourth time in his career, averaged a triple-double last season? Westbrook is an eight-time All-Star, has won the MVP award, and holds the record for most triple-doubles in NBA history. The future Hall of Famer is a modern-day Oscar Robertson in every way. Can Westbrook finally match Robertson with the title he’s been pursuing his whole career now that he’s joined LeBron James and Anthony Davis?
Dennis Schroder’s subtraction
After a year of coming off the bench in OKC, Schroder was pushed into the starting lineup and finished second in the Sixth Man of the Year vote. Schroders’ shooting percentages dropped, but his assists were at their highest level since 2017. Nobody can blame Schroder for attempting, but ultimately failing, to be compensated. Schroder would have been an ideal Westbrook backup, but the Lakers couldn’t afford him.
Grizzlies of Memphis
Steven Adams has been added to the mix.
Can you believe Adams is just 29 years old? The 28-year-old will provide playoff experience to a Grizzlies team that is still young. Trading the team’s starting center, who had superior overall statistics, was, nevertheless, a risky decision. In the end, this decision saved the club money in the long run.
Jonas Valanciunas subtracts
Valanciunas had a career year last season, averaging 17.1 points and 12.5 rebounds. The Grizzlies were unlikely to retain Valanciunas beyond this season, which is his contract’s last year. The club didn’t reach the playoffs last season, so they’re prepared to take a chance on Adams, which saves money in the long run.
Heat of Miami
Kyle Lowry has been added to the team.
Bam Adebayo and Jimmy Butler were already two of the league’s best overall defensive players. The club then added PJ Tucker and Kyle Lowry to its roster. This may be a battle among the league’s most psychologically difficult teams. Lowry adds to Butler’s arsenal of skills. In Miami, double that aura will make every game worth viewing.
Goran Dragic’s subtraction
Lowry came to Miami at the expense of one of the Heat’s best prospects, Precious Achiuwa, as well as Goran Dragic. Dragic will be 36 years old at the conclusion of next season, but he spent seven years with the Heat, including an All-Star appearance in 2018. When the club reached the NBA Finals, Dragic developed into an emotional experienced leader. As a backup point guard last season, he averaged 14.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. What are the chances? He may be able to return to Toronto if a buyout is reached.
The Milwaukee Bucks are a professional basketball team based in
George Hill has been added to the list.
Hill is no longer the starting-caliber guard who led the Indiana Pacers reach the NBA Finals for the second year in a row. He is, however, still regarded as one of the league’s best veterans. After splitting time with the Thunder and the 76ers, Hill posted his lowest points per game average since 2008. Hill was with the Bucks in 2018 and 2019, so he should be able to get back into the game quickly.
PJ Tucker’s subtraction
For a player who once played for over 30 minutes and scored zero points, how is it a bug subtraction? Tucker is a prime illustration of how a box score may not always provide the whole story. His tenacity, defense, and willingness to do the dirty job will be missed by the Bucks. Tucker was an emotional leader for the Bucks’ championship team, and he will be sorely missed by his teammates and fans.
Minnesota Timberwolves are a professional hockey team based in Minnesota
Patrick Beverley has been added to the list.
Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell, and Anthony Edwards, according to the Timberwolves, are talented enough to contend for a back-end playoff berth. Isn’t it only veterans they need? Beverley may just be able to get these kids in shape. The Timberwolves are hoping that their reputation for grit and toughness rubs off on their core.
Jarrett Culver’s subtraction
Culver’s playing time was reduced to only 14.7 minutes per game in 34 games after averaging 9.2 points as a rookie. Culver, who is just 22, averaged 5.3 points per game. He was the No. 6 overall selection in the 2019 draft. Culver’s NBA door should not be fully shut just yet, since he was once a potential prospect.
Pelicans of New Orleans
Jonas Valanciunas has been added to the mix.
Valanciunas gives a Pelicans club that is still looking for its identity additional offensive firepower. The club is hoping that Devonte’ Graham and Valanciunas will complement Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram now that they have been added. Valanciunas has a higher rebounding percentage than Adams and, on theory, will make a solid frontcourt partner for Williamson.
Lonzo Ball is a subtraction.
The loss of their starting point guard from the previous two seasons is a setback. Ball enjoyed a great year offensively last season. The 23-year-old has a 14.6-point, 4.8-rebound, 5.7-assist, and 1.5-steal per-game average. Ball’s field goal % and three-point field goal percentage both set career highs. Ball never fully fit in New Orleans, so there’s a case to be made that this isn’t a significant loss.
Knicks of New York
Kemba Walker has been added to the mix.
Elfrid Payton went from starting for the Knicks to being the Hornets’ all-time leading scorer. Walker is a four-time All-Star who, when healthy, is one of the greatest guards in the game. The Knicks have a genuine superstar combination in Walker and Randle. This also enables Derrick Rose to play off the bench, a position he excelled in previous season.
Reggie Bullock is a subtraction.
Bullock and Payton were the only two players from last year’s squad who did not return. Payton was no longer in the rotation by the conclusion of the season, and Bullock was reduced to a spot-up shooter. With Evan Fournier, the club was able to meet the demand. The Knicks had a very good offseason.
Thunder in Oklahoma City
Josh Giddey has been added to the mix.
The Thunder are still a few years away from being able to compete at a top level. Shai Gilgeous-extension Alexander’s was the first step. The Thunder bolstered their core by drafting Josh Giddey, who led the NPL with 10.9 points and 7.4 rebounds previous season. Giddey was selected sixth overall in this year’s draft and will be one of the league’s four youngest players.
Al Horford’s subtraction
Horford hasn’t played for the club in a while, but he left his imprint on the franchise. Horford averaged 14.2 points and 6.7 rebounds in 28 games. Horford didn’t suit the team’s long-term goals, but he’s still a valuable veteran who might have helped a bunch of young players if he hadn’t been so focused on winning a championship.
Orlando Magic is a professional basketball team based in
Jalen Suggs has been added to the team.
Franz Wagner may be a key addition, but Suggs has the most upside. Last season, Suggs led Gonzaga to a National Runner-Up finish with 14.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game. The Magic have a genuine shooting guard for the first time since maybe Hedo Turkoglu.
Otto Porter Jr., Otto Porter Jr., Otto Porter Jr., Otto Porter Jr.
Porter only appeared in three games for the Magic this summer, but he and Dwayne Bacon were the Magic’s only defeats. Despite averaging 8.0 points and shooting 11 percent from the field in 22.0 minutes per game, Porter is the most well-known player.
The 76ers are a basketball team based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Andre Drummond has been added to the team.
Drummond is a bit of a puzzle right now. After averaging 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds for the Cavaliers, his role waned, he didn’t play for a while, and he ultimately joined the Lakers, where he never quite fit in. He’s now Joel Embiid’s backup, only one year after leading the league in rebounding for three years in a row? This may be a big boost to the team’s second unit, but after signing a one-year contract, Drummond will have to show his value in this league.
Dwight Howard is being subtracted from the equation.
We have to look at guys that left the squad since Ben Simmons is still on the club. Despite turning 36 in December, Howard shown that he can still play the role as backup center if necessary. Last season, Howard played 17.3 minutes per game and averaged 7.0 points and 8.4 rebounds. Howard is still a high-energy replacement who will be missed in Philadelphia, particularly because he is returning to the Lakers, where he won a championship in 2024.
The Phoenix Suns are a professional basketball team based in
JaVale McGee has been added to the team.
Aside from Chris Paul’s re-signing, the offseason was a disappointment. Elfrid Payton, Landry Shamet, and JaVale McGee were the only other newcomers. McGee’s addition will provide Deandre Ayton with a genuine experienced backup center. McGee has a championship pedigree, having played with some of the league’s greatest players. He adds depth to the frontcourt and provides a genuine rim protector to the second unit.
Torrey Craig’s subtraction
Only Jevon Carter and Craig remained on the Suns’ roster from previous season. Craig wasn’t a very good offensive player, but he was a reliable spot-up shooter who could also play defense with the second unit. If this was really their worst defeat, the Suns will be OK.
The Portland Trail Blazers are a professional basketball team based in Portland,
Larry Nance Jr. has been added to the mix.
Damian Lillard was believed to be on his way out of the Trail Blazers, but Lillard himself blasted down such reports. The fact that Portland was not bringing in a strong supporting cast was his greatest concern. The club made a last-ditch attempt to get Nance, which cost them a first-round selection. Nance will be a terrific backup for Robert Covington, and he could even play the five if the Trail Blazers decide to play small ball by benching Jusef Nurkic.
Carmelo Anthony is a subtraction.
After almost retiring, Anthony revived his career in Portland. His work and adjustment to becoming a team player were well received by the fans. He was also a valuable member of the team. Anthony was also a capable outside shooter for the squad. Tony Snell was basically brought in to replace him. Which of the two would you like to have?
Sacramento Kings are a professional basketball team based in
Davion Mitchell has been added to the mix.
Davion Mitchell was perhaps the most significant player on Baylor’s National Championship squad. Mitchell was not the greatest offensive player overall, but he was the most well-rounded. His defense has gotten great reviews from scouts. At first sight, he seems to have the potential to develop into a player similar to Patrick Beverley. With a real point guard, De’Aaron Fox will be able to shift to shooting guard, which would be a fantastic move if Buddy Hield is traded before the deadline.
Delon Wright’s subtraction
From last year’s squad, the Kings lost Wright and Hassan Whiteside. Despite having had a strong season the year before, Whiteside never seemed to fit in with Luke Walton. Wright, who shot a solid three-point field goal percentage and contributed double digits off the bench, was the greatest loss since Whiteside was not returning.
Spurs of San Antonio
Thaddeus Young has been added to the list.
The ultimate irony is that Greg Popovich, who is 72 years old, will be coaching a Spurs starting lineup that only has one genuine NBA veteran in Doug McDermott. Thaddeus Young is one of the league’s most popular players in the locker room. He just had a great year in terms of field goal percentage and assists. Young will have an effect on a young, rebuilding Spurs squad, both on and off the court.
DeMar DeRozan is a subtraction.
Despite the Spurs’ lack of competitiveness last season, DeRozan averaged 21.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists. He’s one of the league’s best mid-range shooters. Replacing 20 points each night is a difficult task, particularly with a bunch of players who have never done it before.
Raptors of Toronto
Precious Achiuwa has been added to the mix.
Since winning their first championship in club history in 2019, the Raptors have gone a long way. We mean “a long distance” in the other direction when we say “a long way.” From a business perspective, the contracts for Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet seem to be a disaster. With a team that seems to be in disarray, the Raptors missed the playoffs last season. Achiuwa was another youthful component that may assist grow into the team’s future core with a relaunch in Scottie Barnes.
Kyle Lowry’s subtraction
The Toronto Raptors are led by Lowry. When we look back, we’ll remember Vince Carter, DeMar DeRozan, and Chris Bosh as outstanding all-around players. Lowry, on the other hand, remained for the long haul, assisting in the Raptors’ ascension into contention and then serving as the team’s emotional leader when they won their first title. His tenacity and hard ethic will be remembered, and he will almost certainly get a standing ovation when he returns to Canada.
Utah Jazz
Hassan Whiteside has been added to the mix.
Whiteside, as previously said, might be an excellent addition to the Jazz. Whiteside averaged 15.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in 30.0 minutes per game in 67 games in 2019-2020. In 36 games with the Kings, he averaged 8.1 points and 6.0 rebounds in 15.2 minutes. Rudy Gobert, the Jazz’s top overall defensive center, is already on the team. The Jazz will have the greatest first and second unit centers in the NBA if Whiteside can repeat his performance from two years ago as a backup. Rudy Gay was also a fantastic selection, and Jared Butler may be the best bargain in the draft.
Derrick Favors is a subtraction.
Whiteside has the potential to be a better version of Favors, giving the club reason to be optimistic. Favors was a reserve for Utah last season, averaging 5.4 points and 5.5 rebounds. It was his second tenure with the club, however because to salary limit constraints, he was moved to the Thunder, allowing the team to contract Mike Conley Jr.
Wizards of Washington
Kyle Kuzma has been added to the team.
Who has the greatest potential among the Wizards’ newcomers this season? Kuzma, who averaged 18.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and shot 45.6 percent from the floor two years ago, is the obvious solution. He’s 26 years old and still at the top of his game. Kuzma’s numbers have dropped in the past two years as he has gone to the bench to assist the Lakers win a championship. Now that he’ll be back in the starting lineup, he and Bradley Beal may form a deadly scoring combination.
Russell Westbrook is a subtraction.
Whatever you think of the Wizards’ first-round playoff loss, they aren’t going to make it without Westbrook’s contributions. For the fourth time in his career, Westbrook averaged 22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, and 11.7 assists. Those figures don’t just appear out of nowhere. Given another year, the club would have had a potential Hall of Famer who could have worked out with Beal. Instead, the club decided to take a chance and increase depth at the cost of a superstar.
