The Lakers had a chance to sign Jared Dudley, but they passed on him. Here are the four reasons why the Lakers made a mistake of not signing him.
The 14-year veteran’s tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers is allegedly coming to an end after it was announced on Tuesday that he would join Jason Kidd’s staff with the Dallas Mavericks. Many people in the LA Twitterverse reacted furiously as soon as the news came, and it’s hard to blame them.
Jared Dudley has agreed to join the Dallas Mavericks as an assistant coach after 14 NBA seasons, according to sources at @TheAthletic @Stadium. Under new head coach Jason Kidd, Dudley will be a front-of-the-bus assistant.

In the last two seasons, Dudley was more than just a benchwarmer for the Lakers. He was the club’s glue man and a veteran who helped the Lakers improve their IQ (an essential element for any basketball team). He was thought to be the link between Frank Vogel and the rest of the roster. Dudley was often the one in charge of organizing team building events and get-togethers for the team, which he will undoubtedly be missed in the future.

After all of that, here are four more reasons why the Lakers’ decision not to bring him back was a mistake.
4. The Lakers lose a key voice.
When the Lakers were down (55-42) at halftime in the play-in tournament against the Warriors, it was Dudley and Markief Morris who inspired the squad to rally. The precise comments of both veterans, according to LeBron James, were “you must pick this stuff up.” True to form, the Purple and Gold finally overtook the Purple and Gold and won the crucial game. This may seem little, but it’s something Dudley has done many times. I’m curious how many people LeBron really listens to.
If this is real, as it most likely is, congrats to my man! But, oh, man!! NO WAY!

3. The Lakers lose another player who is familiar with Vogel’s system.
Only four players remain from the Lakers’ 2024 championship team (James, Anthony Davis, Dwight Howard, and Talen Horton Tucker). For Lakers fans, the 2024 squad was unique due of its cohesiveness and the potential of role players to be stars in their own right. The Lakers have had a lot of roster change in the last two off seasons, which may make Vogel’s job a bit more tough.
I’ve been working on this for a long time! Nash, Hill, Shaq, Bron, Booker, Beal, AD, Giannis, and the list goes on and on. I’m really thrilled to be a part of the MAVS and JKidd teams! The ideal match and chance… It’s time to get down to business.

Vogel has his job cut out for him this season, as coach must acclimate veterans such as Carmelo Anthony, Trevor Ariza, Wayne Ellington, Kent Bazemore, and young role players such as Kendrick Nunn and Malik Monk to his system. Vogel, on the other hand, has David Fizdale and Phil Handy on his side to assist him.

1. The elite Lakers bench celebration is over.
Dudz’s role as the team’s cheerleader is sometimes mocked, but whether they acknowledge it or not, his bench celebrations were the greatest. It’s all too easy to dismiss bench celebrations as unimportant. Sure, bench celebrations don’t win games, but they do help to create team camaraderie by letting players know that they are supported by their teammates.

Bonus: The media’s favorite Laker bids farewell.
Because he often has no filter among reporters, Jared Dudley is one of, if not the greatest player to interview. He kept it genuine, telling reporters things that James and even Davis don’t tell.
Because of his charming personality and sense of humor, it was a pleasure to interview him. He was a cheerful athlete who always believed in his teammates and gave the greatest comments.
“People don’t seem to realize how deep we are. Last year, I started playoff games, but today I’m the 14th or 15th guy.” 🤣😂 @JaredDudley619 is an expert quoter. #LakeShow @RealAClifton pic.twitter.com/rL71my1ycD
